Happy Earth Day

Today will be a short post to commemorate and recognise Earth Day. Proposed in 1969 and then subsequently instigated in 1970, this commemorative day is meant to highlight the support around the world for the environment. All too often there are naysayers that deny that our world is not at risk. Deny that climate change isn't a real threat. Ignore the evidence that is provided from those amazing scientists dedicated to a lifetime of data.

To be completely honest and regardless of your viewpoint either way, today should be a day to celebrate the world that we live in; to appreciate the beauty around us and marvel at the place that we can truly call home. I truly hope that the future will be a happy place that we can all live in side-by-side peacefully and in a sustainable way. A world in which us and our future generations can live in and thrive without any concern of depleting resources, nourishment issues or fighting for space.

Today, I made a point of immersing myself in nature. I wanted to disconnect myself from the digital and human world to be close to that which makes us all a part of this planet. Standing in the woods and admiring the bluebell season which is in full bloom here in the United Kingdom, listening to the birdsong from the canopies up above helps to put everything into perspective. If we all take a moment to simply stop and listen, perhaps we can all strive to make this world one worth living in and a truly better place.

So while this isn't truly a travel blog piece, I hope that wherever you are reading this in the world you take that moment to stop and listen to your surroundings. Appreciate the area around you and have a very Happy Earth Day.
